Tarangire is known for its large elephant herds and dramatic, ancient baobab trees, which give the park a distinct look compared with the open grass plains of the Serengeti. The Tarangire River is the park's main dry-season water source and draws in wildlife from a wide surrounding area when conditions elsewhere are drier.
