Zanzibar's coastline is lined with white-sand beaches and warm, shallow turquoise water. The north coast (Nungwi and Kendwa) has a smaller tidal range and more restaurants and nightlife, while the east coast is quieter with a bigger swing between high and low tide affecting swimming conditions through the day.

The driest, most popular months are roughly June-October and December-February. The long rains (March-May) are quieter and less expensive, with more frequent afternoon showers.
